GGS 11.22 One & Done 4: Freaks & Geeks
This week at Geek Girl Soup, it’s another one-and-done: “Freaks and Geeks,” featuring then-unknowns Linda Cardellini, Jason Segel, Seth Rogan, Martin Starr, and James Franco.
Billed as both a comedy and a drama, “Freaks and Geeks” (Hulu) is filled with funny moments, but it also covers some series themes.
We’ve got Neal discovering that his dad is a serial cheater. Ken finds out that his girlfriend was born intersex. Nick moves out of his home when his dad throws out his drums and threatens to send him to military school. And Bill comes to terms with his mom’s new boyfriend, Coach Fredricks, played by Tom Wilson. You know him as Biff Tanner from “Back to the Future”!
“Freaks and Geeks” also features Busy Phillips, Lizzy Caplan, Samm Levine, John Francis Daley, and Joe Flaherty. Oh, and our awesome Ann Dowd plays BFF Kim’s mom!
Next week, we’re “celebrating” Easter with “Midnight Mass” (Netflix)!
