It’s really difficult to be surprised when you’re watching a biopic or historical drama. People tend to feel free to share “spoilers” since the thinking goes, “You can’t spoil something that already happened in real life.” True, but….

We’ve discovered that not quite everyone realized that “Society of the Snow” is based on a true story. And even fewer people—young people—have even heard of the story on which the film is based.

We do “spoil” the film/story in this podcast episode. But the writer of these show notes, at least, is not spoiling anything when discussing the film in person.

“Society of the Snow” is a new telling of the story of the 1972 plane that was carrying the Uruguayan men’s rugby team to Chile. For those of us of a certain age, that’s all we need to know to trigger our knowledge of the rest of the story. This writer discovered that her adult children knew nothing. So, she told them nothing—except to avoid reading anything about the film. Just go watch it.

In this podcast episode, we discuss our thoughts and feelings about the film and what we learned from articles we read about the film.

We go into a few “related” tangents about how the airline industry certainly has progressed since 1972… and what it may look like in the future.

Next week: We discuss the AppleTV+ series “Monarch: The Legacy of Monsters.” The season-one finale is this Friday, January 12th!
