12.38: Tina Remains Simply the Best

Today we celebrate the powerful life of the fabulous Tina Turner. Better than all the rest! Really, what else is there to say about Tina? We have not just a bit more, as does the documentary “Tina” (2021, on Max) that we watched for this episode.

Authorized by Tina, and exec-produced by her widower Erwin Bach, “Tina” takes us into many aspects of Tina’s life—from her childhood to her time with Ike Turner to her massive success as a solo artist and to her finding enduring love with Erwin. You will love Tina even more after watching this doc!

We see a bit of the making of the film “What’s Love Got to Do with It” and why Tina never watched it. We learn what interview questions Tina loathed and how she had hoped her autobiography (written with the late Kurt Loder) would end those questions. Sadly (and understandably), the book fueled them.

Next time: “The Pope Answers” documentary on Hulu.
