12.28: Tainted Meat: David Choe Ruins “Beef” PLUS the Ridiculous Fun of “Cocaine Bear”

See this content in the original post

We had to scrap the episode we had previously recorded on the Netflix series “BEEF” after we learned about the David Choe scandal. So, we’re replacing it with a discussion of the Choe incident(s) and a blow-by-blow of the “Final-Destination”-esque deaths in “Cocaine Bear.”

In 2014, on his podcast DVDASA (Double Vag, Double Anal, Sensitive Artist), Choe admitted to “rapey behavior” and said that “the thrill of possibly going to jail” was a turn on for him. (Nice.)

Previous to that, some 23 years ago, Choe wrote the following in an open-letter, cuss-y tirade to people in the comics industry (Choe is also a graffiti artist and was working on comics for Marvel at that time):

“I’ll donate it to some r**ards or the special Olympics organization, you know, the real ‘mutants,’ the f***ers with the real genetic disorders.” (Um, yeah.)

Should the casting directors and show runners of “BEEF” have vetted him better before hiring him? Why haven’t Netflix, the show runners, and stars Steven Yeun and Ali Wong made statements about Choe’s words yet? We talk about this and more.

In the light, happy part of this episode, we chat all-things “Cocaine Bear”—now streaming on Peacock! Oh, my lord, what ridiculous fun, inspired by the true story of a black bear that ate a bunch of cocaine but killed no one.

This is Ray Liotta’s last film. We do not hear Isaiah Whitlock, Jr., say “shiiiit.” O’Shea Jackson, Jr., gets to kick ass in a park bathroom. Keri Russell wears the most ‘80s of outfits ever. Matthew Rhys and character-actress Margo Martindale die spectacular deaths. And Rosette gets a happy ending!
