You’ve seen the movie. But have you watched the now-canceled series? For this month’s One-and-Done, we’re chatting about “Heathers”—the trying-a-bit-too-hard series that’s based-on, riffed-off-of, an homage-to the Winona Ryder/Christian Slater film from 1988.

Chris loved it. Susan didn’t finish it. Amelia called it “textbook hate-watching.” Kelly was meh on it. And Cort said, “Overall I hated the f***ing show, but there were shining moments.”

In the series’ favor, the creators clearly adore the film. And there are indeed shining moments. The series goes places that the film never did, some of which we Xers wanted at the time but now find horrifying.

We all do agree that the show nails the ending. So, that’s something. We get some prime quotes from our beloved film—which is a mixed bag. And Shannen Doherty (the original Heather Duke) makes a cameo appearance.

Next week we’re watching three films based on our zodiac signs: The Scorpios chose noir films: “Shimmer Lake” (Netflix) and “Double Indemnity” (rent). The Cancer chose a romance: “Love and Basketball” (HBO Max).
